Universal  Monitoring System

Lignomat LMS-KM

Most Lumber operations use an open air  area where lumber is stored on stickers to get dried while exposed to the elements. Several hundred bundles could be stored at such an Air Drying Yard.

From there those bundles are being selected to go in the kiln for drying to the desired final Moisture Content.

It would be very desirable to know of the approximate MC of each Bundle when selecting a Load for the kiln, in order to select bundles that have approximately the same MC. With a wide range of MC in the kiln, the drying time for the bundles with low moisture content is increased due to the longer time required to dry  the bundles with high moisture content. Efficiency can be increased by a large amount by having a narrow range of MC distribution  within a Kiln Charge.

This can be accomplished by using the Wireless Probe System to measure the actual MC of the Bundles in the Air Drying Yard. Transmitters with Probes are placed in the bundles. The MC readings are  picked up by receivers connected to a PC system with software to display the MC readings and automatically selecting  bundles for a Kiln charge.

The Wireless Probe System provides an excellent means to measure Temperature, EMC or MC values at hard to get to or remote locations.

It has been used in numerous research projects to measure MC inside walls , inside lumber stacks or other materials. Also it is used to just monitor MC, EMC and/or Temperature readings in predominantly smaller Kilns.

Up to 100 remote Transmitters (T,EMC,MC) can be connected. The signals are picked up by one or  several receiver(s) connected to a PC. There, all readings are being numerically or graphically displayed. MC readings are corrected for individual species.

The transmitters operating range varies from approximately 75’ inside a kiln to 1000’ where a straight line of sight exists. They are  powered by an integrated lithium battery lasting the entire life span of the unit (appr. 10 years.
